‘Marco’ made waves as one of the most grossing and celebrated films this year with equal measure of controversy. Haneef Adeni’s ‘Marco’ is now under the fire for the streaming and satellite telecast approval with Nadeem Thufali T, the Regional Officer of CBFC has urged the board to confine the OTT release too.
The Unni Mukundan starrer released in December 2024 faced issues with the OTT release for its Uncut or Uncensored version. Amidst the CBFC granting ‘A’ certificate for its theatrical issue, the movie faced blocks for the OTT release. Now ‘Marco’ is blocked for Television Satellite Rights citing ‘Extreme Violent Content’.
“Marco has already been certified A by the CBFC. Parents should exercise caution when allowing children to watch such films. The CBFC’s role is limited to certification and does not involve censorship. We have rejected the satellite rights for the movie Marco as it’s not suitable for a family audience,” Nadeem Thufali, the Regional CBFC Officer told Manorama News. The officer has also urged the centre to revoke ‘Marco’ movie’s OTT streaming rights.
