What is the possibility of a film that has been shelved for over a decade and miraculously releases 12 years later and still hit the right spots intended? The answer can only be seen through your own eyes as ‘Madha Gaja Raja’ directed by Sundar C entertains the audience with its commercially exaggerated sequence of events and slapstick humour still relevant among the audience.
Madha Gaja Raja Plot
A young carefree and jolly person MGR or Madha Gaja Raja or Raja (Vishal) meets his three childhood friends – Santhanam, Sadagopan Ramesh and Nithin Sathya after years and rekindle their friendship after meeting in a wedding. He soon learns that two of friends are in deep trouble with a big Media Mafia headed by Sonu Sood and steps up to help his friends which takes him into a journey of humour and action filled narrative.
The Positive Aspects
Sundar C’s treatment of his actors reflects well on screen, especially the scenes with Santhanam and Vishal where the former shows off his epic one liner comments that get the claps started. A rib tickling humour that hits us every 10 minutes is a great pace to keep up for a commercial comedy film.
Vishal in his prime form, not that his recent releases were not impressive but the actor nonchalantly dominates action and chases without the current slow motion sequences or the way Vishal’s combination with his fellow actors result in jokes that land perfectly is a treat to watch.
Supporting actors in their pristine form works miraculously for the comedy gags. The opportunity to witness the now late actors Manobala, Manivannan working their way in making the audience laugh is almost like unwrapping a time capsule that is familiar and warm.
Peppy and Lively music by Vijay Antony and Richard M Nathan’s racy and hooked cinematography keeps the audience connected with a special guest appearance added as a surprise.

The Negative Aspects
The entire first half apart from the humorous scenes replicate Madha Gaja Raja’s several other similar movies and is only held by the comedic dialogues and call backs.
Sonu Sood’s career in 12 years has changed highly thus the audience are left with a huge expectation from him as a fierce villain only to be detached from the terror as most of the serious bits are under the veil of humour.
Nothing much has changed about the parts played by actresses in commercial films as Anjali and Varalaxmi are used partially for the male gaze and similar aspects. While half saree wearing Anjali stands on the step of a traditional girl, Varalaxmi (Maya) is roped in for the adult content jokes and lusting over Raja who is already in love with Malathi (Anjali).
The Verdict
Keeping away the moral and political correctness, Madha Gaja Raja is a surprising time capsule filled with good old separate comedy gags, terrific actors giving their all for a fun filled ride of romance, action and all the commercial factors for a worthy watch.
