Suzhal-The Vortex 2: Storyline
The story begins with the trial of Nandini a child abuse victim (whose is an open book to us) from the first season for murdering Guna with the revolver of her childhood friend and the S.I. Sakkarai. Nandini is backed by her defense counsel, a well-acclaimed and a reputed criminal lawyer from the district of Kanyakumari, Chellappa who claims that the murder committed by Nandini is a self-defense of the victim. With only a few days left for the judgement favouring the release of Nandini. Unfortunately, the dream of Nandini gets shattered when her defense lawyer Chellappa is murdered in a suspicious way and they find a girl with a gun in the crime spot. The series will further explore the cluster of questions that might pop up within the minds of the viewers.
Suzhal-The Vortex 2: Holistic Review
Suzhal 2 begins with the episode 1 titled “The Beginnings” in which we encounter the events that we all saw from the trailer that the murder of Chellappa, Nandini’s defense lawyer is going to be the base story. From there, we are pushed into the world of questions and skeptical views over every character apart from the well mannered S.I. Chakravarthy aka Sakkarai. Sakkarai is appointed as the investigation officer over Murthy, another S.I. Rest of the episodes keep us engaged with Sakkarai’s investigation to find the murderer of Chellappa.
The story shifts our perspective over the credibility of Chellappa and other supporting characters. And we even might get confused in an eddy whether Chellappa is a Demon or an Angel. Because he is initially introduced as a man with principles and no faults, but the articulate writing of Pushkar and Gayathri who carry us into a new subplots of other female characters such as Muthu, Veera, Muppi, Gaandhari, Nagamma, Prayamvatha and Sandhanam does give a second thought over him.
The main theme of “Suzhal-The Vortex” is child abuse and the makers exposes a two different world in the episode 3 and 4, the one which we are familiar in the big screen movies ‘The Human Trafficking’. An invisible network that still haunts even in our reality, the other one is the prison sequences which will definitely torment the person with a light heart. Because it really does look like a hell with the physical, verbal and even sexual harassment undergone by the women characters.
There are some of the takeaway moments in this gripping thriller series, such as the matured conversation between the legit and illegit son of Chellappa, candid moment shared by Nandini & Sakkarai during her meeting time in the prison, & the climax conversation, Nagamma who becoming a motherly figure to the girls with no hope are looking like a refreshing or unexpected thing in a barren land.
One of the iconic shots or scenes that elevates the inner emotions is the introduction of all the eight women characters with reference to Goddesses “Ashtakaali’s”.
Perfect casting with powerful performance of every single character, the visuals showcasing this series’ essence “The Vortex”, some hard hitting dialogues made this series with good highs and pulse racing sequences from the first episode to the end.
Suzhal: The Vortex 2 – Negative Aspects
The story looks really great but when you serve too much information, the viewer might get deviated from the focal point and their efforts to impose the purpose of this story. To quote this, the sequence of human trafficking and the network, the kingpins who are involved in it, the flashback connection of the eight women. It looks disappointing when the research work that they poured on human trafficking falters when one of the characters who is in a prison easily goes out to meet with her team at their meeting point which is there inside the prison. It’s like Seriously? Are they in prison? where they showcased a group of horrifying women involved in abuse and ragging. The concern of logic looks contradictory with their two different themes.
Some of the forcibly stretched screenplay to match the run time, the regular thriller content sequences and predictable moments, have diluted the essence of thrills and the fans of the first season might feel dissatisfied.
Suzhal-The Vortex 2: Verdict
Suzhal 2 explores and blends crime, mystery and psychological depth will keep you all occupied. With hits and few misses, this technically & creatively sound second season of the world of “Suzhal” from the acclaimed makers Pushkar and Gayathri is a must watch thriller series for this weekend
