Tamil Film Active Producers Association announces legal actions against Reviewers and Audience for personal attacks

TFAPA released a lengthy, detailed statement regarding the recent upheaval of fans and YouTube reviewers that broke the way people perceive cinema and their intervention in the choices of visiting the theatres after release. The Association also demands restriction for reviewers, here are the details.

Tamil Film Active Producers Association demands ban on YouTube reviewers from theatres on the release dates. The council released a statement that discussed the recent turbulence with ‘Kanguva’ movie reviews and the subsequent distortion in theatre visitors and impact across the internet. The association is led by Director P. Bharathirajaa shared their unanimous disappointment and how certain reviewers and fans are targeting actors personally while reviewing the film.

The trend of First Day First Show reviews and capturing raw, unscathed reviews and views of the audience has blown out of proportion as recent movie reviews and criticisms take severity and target actors. The exaggerated comments and dramatic interviews by some audiences have triggered the corresponding notice from the Tamil Film Active Producers Association.

The four page detailed notice is about how “criticising and appreciating reviews of a movie is well inside the rights of the media fraternities”. But when the rights are misused and misinterpreted by some YouTube reviewers who in recent times have been severely targeting the actors and attacking them personally, an intervention is necessary.

The Tamil Film Active Producers Association also announced legal actions will be taken against any reviewer or public, who in the name of interviews, target actors irrespectively will be condemned. They have also demanded theatres to ban such YouTube reviewers from flooding the premise on release date, asking triggering questions that are further posted without sensitive concerns or media ethics.

The association’s suggestion is backed by few examples from 2024 with the likes of Indian 2, Vettaiyan and Kanguva receiving severe hate and glorified opinions of a certain group impacting the whole response of the audience through repetitive sharing on the internet. Such acts of targeting and abuse, if continued, will result in the film associations’ intervention and legal actions.

These condemns will also include on YouTube channels who are sharing such reviews and opinions in their feeds, while also mentioned how a certain elderly man went over the top and gave exaggerated opinions regarding the ‘Kanguva’ movie and how it has caused him emotional turmoil as if the three hours of movie has spoiled his day. This was especially mentioned by the association as the review alone blew up everywhere and shared for days, ruining everyone’s personal experience and opinion.

This notice serves as a light of control and a stand against attacks and abuses against actors or directors or producers who are just a part of an industry that provides three hours of entertainment. The movies are equally responsible and keen on being neutral and sincere with the sole purpose of entertaining the audiences and not to be taken as an emotional turmoil.
