Marked as one of 2024’s utmost popular Indian films, ‘Maharaja’ directed by Nithilan Swaminathan with its unpredictable and atypical screenplay has garnered worldwide recognition and is now expanding to China for an exclusive release.

The Nithilan Swaminathan direction was loved and rejoiced by millions, especially reaping massive appreciation for the narrative and screenplay was released on June 14, 2024.

‘Maharaja’ is now planned to be released in China on November 29, 2024 in 40,000 theatres and gets the status of a very few Tamil movies that are screened in the Chinese market. The movie is distributed and initiated by Yi Shi Films and Alibaba Pictures will undoubtedly receive traction and accolades just like the first wave of reactions, post the theatrical release and the OTT streaming on Netflix.

The coveted and gripping thriller stars Vijay Sethupathi, Anurag Kashyap, Abhirami, Sachana Namidass, Mamtha Mohandas, Natrajan Subramanian and Singam Puli. The movie’s release will also pave way for promotions and special events across the country, hopefully involving the cast and crew. Producer Sudhan Sundaram of Passion Studios shared that “The film has emotional content with an engaging screenplay that will surely enthral the Chinese crowds”, as per India Today.

It is very rare for a Tamil movie without massive budget or star power to garner and gather such accolades right off the bat as it is usually missed out and is more often remembered after years as ‘an underrated movie’ or ‘forgotten cult’. Maharaja stands out for the way the movie is made with simple plot that is woven intricately and minutely and probably the only Tamil thriller to reach such fame.
