One of Tamil Cinema’s finest and purest of filmmakers who interprets life as it is, without veiling it in glossy sheet is director Ram. His collaboration with Actor Michi Shiva titled ‘Paranthu Po’ is making its way to the IFFR 2025 in the Limelight section, making this his third time the recent being ‘Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai’ which is set to release in theatres.
‘Paranthu Po’ is the story of a steadfast schoolboy who is on a road trip with his loving but cash- strapped father played by Shiva as they find a middle ground away from the business of the bustling city life. The movie is a typical setting of Director Ram who always puts on a child’s goggles to witness the world and the complexity of it, through which he breaks down the narrative.

Director Ram on speaking about ‘Paranthu Po’ and his collaboration with Shiva said that they both had their debut in 2007 as Ram with ‘Katradhu Tamil’ and Shiva with Venkat Prabhu’s ‘Chennai 600028’ and shared it was long standing friendship and an awaited collaboration that finally happened now. He also shared his thoughts about the film screening at the IFFR 2025 saying, “After Peranbu and Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai, I’m thrilled to have this film premiere at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). When Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai premiered at IFFR 2024, Mithul Ryan asked if Paranthu Po would also be screened there and if he could come to Rotterdam. I am delighted that a year later, his wish has come true. Paranthu Po will have its world premiere at IFFR 2025’s Limelight section.”

The OTT Rights for the film is bought by Disney+ Hotstar yet the date of release is yet to be revealed. The movie has a stellar crew with Santhosh Dhayanidhi covering the Music, Mathi VS in the Editor seat and NK Ekambaram handling the Camera. The Lyrics are penned by writer Madhan Karky while the stunts are organised by Stunt Silva.
