Sivakarthikeyan retains yet another Classic Tamil Movie Title ‘Parasakthi’: Is it Coincidence or Superstition?

Tamil Cinema’s current promising actor Sivakarthikeyan’s 25th film is titled ‘Parasakthi’ amid some controversy around the title, this also confirms his reuse of Classic Tamil movie titles.

One of Tamil Cinema’s homegrown actors whose journey to fame has been rejoiced, celebrated and critiqued is actor Sivakarthikeyan. A solid entertainer who somehow in the past years developed a niche for himself from starting as a Comedy Drama star to now being one of the most sought after actors, replacing the likes of Suriya.

His recent and exciting news ‘Parasakthi’ marks his 25th film in Tamil started off with a bump regarding the title rights that collided with Vijay Antony’s 25th film which in Telugu is releasing as ‘Parasakthi’. While the confusion of the rights between the production houses sorted out, the filmography of Sivakarthikeyan was pulled into attention as he has used some of the classic Tamil movie titles in his career which are a mixed pool of hits and flops.

While there are many actors who follow a certain superstitions or coincidental choices like Ajith Kumar’s list of movies starting with ‘V’ or how Director Shankar’s movies without an ‘N’ sounding word in Tamil will flop, Sivakarthikeyan seems to coincidentally or consciously reach out into the scrapbooks of Tamil Cinema from the past and cut out a copy of some of the classic Tamil film titles. Here’s the list of it and how it became a hit or flop with the same title.

Ethir Neechal

A title that gave both the 1968 and the 2013 cast and crew a huge breakthrough with both Nagesh and Sivakarthikeyan bathing in the limelight of the success. While the first film helmed by K. Balachandar is more comical and focuses on entertainment, the 2013 one directed by R.S Durai Senthilkumar is a more serious sports drama. Both the films are certified hits and hold a worthy repeat value.

Kaaki Sattai

A perfect title for a cop action drama that in 1985 was a huge hit for Kamal Hassan also gave away a decent hit with songs by Anirudh Ravichander in 2015 starring Sivakrthikeyan in the lead as a police officer who solves a medical crime.

Velaikkaran

Rajnikanth’s hit 1987 film with family drama directed by the hit combo director S.P Muthuraman was used again by Sivakarthikeyan in the 2017 film helmed by director Mohan Raja in a medical thriller with Fahadh Faasil playing a memorable antagonist role.

Maveeran

A critically acclaimed movie that was not received well in Box Office is Sivakarthikeyan and Madonne Ashwin’s ‘Maveeran’ with an interesting narrative. The title is derived from Rajnikanth’s 1986 action drama directed by Rajashekar, which was also not a hit compared to the star’s then films.

Amaran

An important film in the career of Sivakarthikeyan who starred in the biographical story of late Major Mukund Varadharajan under the direction of Rajkumar Periyasamy with Sai Pallavi receiving well deserved accolades for her performance. This title was used from Karthick’s 1992 film which was not a huge success but was a decent hit.

Parasakthi

One of the most remarkable and pioneering films of Tamil Cinema with a captivating performance by Nadigar Thilagam Shivaji Ganesan in 1952, ‘Parasakthi’ was a running reference since then. Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming exciting project is also titled the same with great expectations as the powerful title has been fought for by several other production houses before.
