Kamal Hassan taking the lead role in a Mani Ratnam project in 2025 was not on the agenda for the fans who were requesting the hit combo to reunite for decades. The announcement of ‘Thug Life’ was made in 2023 with an intriguing video that blew the minds of everyone. Kamal Hassan, known for being a visionary, was seen narrating the dialogue backwards with the whole scene shot the same way.
The announcement was followed by the makers revealing a grand cast and crew, handpicked for the roles. On the occasion of Kamal Hassan’s birthday, ‘Thug Life’ teaser is out today, an abstract composition of stunning action sequences performed by Kamal Hassan, snapping into striking aerial shots of different remote locations cutting back to the star performer.
The visual treat in every frame speaks volumes of Mani Ratnam’s expertise with his customary collaborator, Oscar awardee AR Rahman seamlessly curating the background score, fitting just right is everything the fans expected and more. Although the film is replete with stars, the teaser focused on Kamal Hassan and Silambarasan TR alone.

Along with the teaser, fans are feasted with the revelation of a release date, chalked up for June 5, 2025 in 5 languages including English and the South Indian languages. The greedy project is bankrolled by none other than Kamal Hassan’s ‘Raaj Kamal Films International’ and Mani Ratnam’s ‘Madras Talkies’ with the prominent ‘Red Giants Movies’.
Kamal Hassan is seen in a wise, monk-like look in the character Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakkar, as seen in the announcement video and in a surprising clean shaven look shown in a glimpse in the teaser while Silambarasan TR is seen in a man bun, grooving in a Holi celebration and in another action sequence. The rest of the cast is absent from the teaser, leaving hopes for some more updates in the near future.
The makers shared the teaser with the caption “His STORY, His RULES” while Kamal Hassan, who is turning 70 shared the teaser in his profile saying, “Every role is an evolution, every film a journey. #Thuglife” proving that this is yet another milestone for the veteran actor, still doing the unthinkable innovations and grooming himself in every turn.
