Tamil Cinema has always been one of the leading producers of movies in India, almost securing the top three spots for the most number of movies released in a year language wise. Although the number is high, there are movies which are unfortunately shelved after the shooting and post production is complete. While there are many projects that are dropped even before the filming began, there are several unreleased Tamil movies that don’t see the light of the day post filming and are stagnant just because of either lack of funds, or refusal of distributors and lagging debts.
Most of the unreleased Tamil movies are stuck in the middle because of the producer – distributor disputes or monetary issues. While many argue that movies have to release in order for the producer to repay the money with the box office collection, it is debated that there is no guarantee that the film post- release would break even and collect a fair share for the distributors, the production house and for the crew.

The recent release of director Sundar C’s ‘Madha Gaja Raja’ originally supposed to release in 2012 had an alarmingly random release for Pongal 2025 in Tamil Nadu with massive response from fans. The reason behind the success of ‘Madha Gaja Raja’ is because of the fans who just wanted something fresh and new from the current narrative or simply visit the theatres for a brain rot humorous show with no logical explanation or layered stories. The success of the film is making a wave as the Vishal, Santhanam starrer movie secured a Telugu release, following the hit in Tamil.
