1976 – Bhakta Kannappa
Yet another grandeur and big budget mythological story is arriving under the AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory productions. They are presenting the upcoming movie “Kannappa” with the tagline of “The untold story of LORD SHIVA’s greatest devotee”.
Previously, the story of this devotee has been made into a movie in 1976 as “Bhakta Kannappa” starring Krishnam Raju as Kannappa and M.Balaiah as Lord Shiva. This movie was a blockbuster hit the then year with the 100 days of theatrical run and the people resonated the devotion and spirituality emotions with the characters deeply.
Who is Kannappa?
Many might have heard of the story of the ardent devotee of Lord Shiva in the Hindu Mythology, but let us have a quick glimpse over his story. From one of the oldest literature in Tamil called “Periya Puranam”, we come to the story of devotee Kannappa, a hunter who offers the meat which he hunts everyday to a Lingam (Lord Shiva’s a form of statue). To test his devotion Lord Shiva makes the eyes of the Lingam bleed one after the other. Kannappa is shocked to witness his God’s plight and he pierces out the right eye first and when he goes for the left eye he is stopped by Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva appears before him, restores his eyesight and gives a boon that his devotion will be worshipped by the forthcoming generations.

It was an out of the blue moment for the fans of mythological movies of Tollywood when they announced the movie “Kannappa”. They revealed the posters of the characters of “Mahadeva Shastri” played by the seasoned actor Mohan Babu and “Kannappa” by actor Vishnu Manchu. The cameo appearances of the Pan-Indian stars Mohanlal, Prabhas, Akshay Kumar and Kajal Agarwal kindled the uncontrolled curiosity of the fans for the movie. With the advanced VFX and cinematography the upcoming movie “Kannappa” is expected to be a first-rated mythological movie of Tollywood.
