The characters which are predominantly known by most of the people are the Pandavas, Gauravas, Lord Krishna, Draupati, Kunti, Karna, Bheeshma and Sakuni. Some characters are hardly known. One of the legendary characters in the epic is Barabarik.
Barbarik, the great warrior in the battle of ‘Mahabharata’ who is little known, will be remembered forever from the upcoming epic Telugu movie “Tribanadhari Barbarik”.
Who is Barbarik?
Barbarik or Barbarika is the son of Ghatotkacha & Ahilavati and grandson of Bhima from the pandavas. His mother Ahilavati taught him the art of warfare and he became the biggest game changer in any battle field he goes to.
What is his role in ‘Mahabharata’?
Barbarik’s skill in warfare has earned him the biggest blessing from Lord Shiva in the form of three arrows. Those arrows had the power of destroying the whole world in a second. So, while giving the arrows Lord Shiva instructed him to be on the side of the defeated team when he chooses to use these arrows. So, during the Mahabharata Barbarik was so interested to witness the battlefield after being informed by Narada, meanwhile Lord Krishna came to know about the arrival of Barbarik.
Lord Krishna disguised as a yogi and asks him to sacrifice his life by beheading, this helps in the victory of ‘Dharma’ at the end. Barbarik agreed to his request and in return he asked for a last wish. That is, to see the complete battle even after his death and Krishna too agreed to his wish. Barbarik being on the side of Kauravas sacrificed his life by beheading. His head was kept at the top of the mountain by Lord Krishna and named him as “Shyam”.
In addition to that, Lord Krishna blessed his rebirth in kali yug as Khatu Shyam to resolve all the problems of his devotees.
