“Coffee With a Killer” Movie Review – A forced emotions and one-dimensional characters

The movie “Coffee With a Killer” becomes underwhelming in screenplay and falls off the mark from the expectations set by its digital campaign.

REVIEW OVERVIEW

Coffee With a Killer

Ravindra Prasad Patnaik who is well-known for his multi-faceted personality in the Tollywood industry as a director, actor, music composer, screenwriter, and singer has come up with his directorial movie “Coffee With a Killer” after nine years. The movie, which is crafted in the suspense and comedy genre, premiered digitally on Aha on January 31,2025.

Coffee With a Killer – Plot

The narration begins with the plot device of the movie “ The Killer”, a character who drives the story further with his 36th murder. Then the movie shifts to a coffee-shop from where the rest of the story goes around. The killer who has been instructed by a strange man via phone call to murder an unknown target is surrounded by distinct varieties of characters which includes lovers, hawala gang, goons, movie makers, and a couple. Subsequently, a police officer arrives at the coffee shop with an anticipation of crime to occur in disguise. The later part of the story wrapped up with suspenses which is to unfold the answers for questions – who is the stranger giving instructions? Why does he make the killer wait? And what will happen next?

Coffee With a Killer – An Overall Review

One of the reasons to look up for the movie “Coffee With a Killer” is R.P.Patnaik, an erudite director in Telugu, has crash landed in many aspects of this movie. Thriller and Comedy are the two genres indulged in the movie, when we look at these two from a distance it seems like the combination of oil and water. Because comedy is something which amuses or dilutes the audience’s stress or it is an added flavour in most of the well-constructed commercial movies. This movie “Coffee With a Killer” was claimed to be a thriller but hardly we could find the thrilling or nail biting moments/sequences. Near and far an underwhelming comedy has been forcibly feeded to the viewers which makes it look vague.

Other crucial elements in a movie are the staging of scenes and subplots which narrates the background stories of the leading characters and makes the audiences connect with them and empathize with them. But throughout the movie “Coffee With a Killer” the wooden performances, staggering & cliched screenplay, misplaced background music rip off the ability to connect promptly with the viewers.

“Coffee With a Killer” – Characterisation & Performance review

The character arcs of the diverse roles showcased in the movie which includes coffee shop employees & manager, lovers, hawala gang, goons, movie makers, a police officer and a couple looked shallow and disjointed. The incoherent placement of comedy and thriller sequences dejected all those characters from creating impact or positive impressions. The seasoned actors Ravi Prakash, Srinivas Reddy, Temper Vamsi, Satyam Rajesh and Ravi Babu have pulled off the best from the given character amidst the collapsing screenplay and the other minor characters have done justification to their respective roles.

“Coffee With a Killer” – Final Verdict

On a whole, R.P.Patnaik’s much hyped thriller movie “Coffee With a Killer” delivers an out of context story with a lack of depth in the core of the plot which turns it to be a below par movie.
