Sammelanam – Overall Review
This is a work of a young team and it reflects overtly in all aspects of making. The story plot which they have chosen to present is love and friendship, the key elements or a driving factor for this young generation. So this could grab the attention of the audiences looking for light hearted stories. Following that, the cast and the whole crew have poured their blood and soul to deliver a quality content in the best way for which the team needs “a bow”.
When the first episode was clicked the run time showed 30 mins and a question popped up within that was how could they engage the audience by choosing the theme “Love”. Well, they have done a decent job from that perspective. One of the pivotal works which is noticed in any love stories is the background & songs, in “Sammelanam” Saravana Vasudev has given good numbers and the music doesn’t pull back the screenplay in any way, instead it blends with it smoothly. Technically, the whole series stands strong.
The story begins with Shreya and Rahul, a loving couple who share a conversation on a mobile about their friend Ram who has now emerged as a popular writer. But from their chat we come to know that they are no longer in contact with each other and she reminds Rahul regarding a promise which they made six years ago. It’s like a hook to make the audience tied with their story. Further, they introduce all the important characters & their relationship with each other. The friendship that they have shown looks refreshing and makes the audience find/cherish the gang for a long run.
The love triangle, some of the surprising twists in the story of Meghna, a breezy love story of Shreya and Rahul, that cute bonding and fun conversation between Shreya & Andalu are like a cherry on a cake.
Pothugadda Movie Review: A riveting cat and mouse game between love & politics!
Sammelanam – Performance Review
Honestly, all the three women characters Shreya, Meghna and Andalu are lasting in the mind, because they have been written well & it is reflected on the screen with stellar performances by all these three ladies. Shreya’s realisation of misunderstanding Ram and confessing her apology looks soothing. Also, Andalu is the only person who makes us laugh by her body language, when she gets tense or in the convo with Shreya like a little sister teasing her sibling. They anchor the series to be more engaging while the rest of the characters don’t stick within us even to hate or regret them. But, Charlie, though he appears only in a few minutes in a episode, he is the only male character who emotes & brings a smile and makes us feel hurt through his suttle acting.
Meanwhile, Ram is the pivotal character whose performance looks good but it feels like there is a lack in his characterisation. And we as an audience couldn’t connect with the pain or any emotion he undergoes.
Sammelanam – Negative Aspects
The series rushed to write this section swiftly, because more than the positive elements, the falters are looking visible. Technically sound content cannot withstand longer if they fail to impress with their story. It is the same with this “Sammelanam”.
From the first episode the story runs without a purpose and swirling within one subplot, “whether Meghna will accept Ram’s Love or not”. The audience might sigh a lot while watching Ram, who is just bouncing between Meghna’s love and Arjun’s friendship. It tests the breaking point of the audience and this might lead to the choice of clicking the 10 seconds forward option often. After the two episodes, both the flashback portions and present portions become predictable and disappointing. While watching the climax, it feels happy not for the happily ever after but “the series is finally ending” without any further cluster of confusions.
Sammelanam – Final Verdict
If you are an audience of watching love stories with some predictable subplots flavoured with a light hearted theme, then it is your perfect choice. The rest of the normal audience can choose this series based on their personal opinions.
